With its solid reputation for whey protein powders and other quality supplements, it is no surprise that Optimum Nutrition is the maker of one of the best selling amino acid energy supplements.

We have used Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy for pre-workout, intra-workout, and post workout needs and have also tried many of its competitors such as Scivation Xtend. How does Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy stack up against the powdered amino acid competition? Let’s dive in and take a look

Taste and Mixability:

The taste and mixability with powdered amino acid supplements is usually good. Out of all the flavored amino acid supplements Optimum Nutrition Amino energy is our all time favorite with Scivation Xtend a close second. There are a lot of options when it comes to flavors. Our personal favorites are the watermelon, orange cooler and lemon lime. It also comes in delicious flavors such as blue raspberry, concord grape and fruit fusion.

The mixability is really easy with Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy. You should be able to mix this stuff in a water bottle really easily. One scoop in a water bottle can be brought to the gym and it goes down smooth with never any chunks or supplement debris.

Optimum Nutrition’s Amino Energy is one of the highest quality amino acid supplements on the market. It costs slightly more than some of its competitors but when you look at the incredible ingredient profile you don’t mind paying a little extra. This supplement goes on sale a lot at many popular bodybuilding supplement sites so you can usually find a nice deal, the best price is usually found at Amazon.com.

Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy is usually priced between .75-1.00 per serving. This isn’t a bad price when you think about the fact that an energy drink which contains no muscle building amino acids costs usually $1-2/£1-2 per serving. The energy profile in Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy is better than many energy drinks which is an added bonus. The energy blend per serving consists of caffeine from green tea, green tea extract and green coffee extract..

The effectiveness of Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy is outstanding. This supplement delivers exactly what it promises. It contains a great amino acid blend consisting of the BCAA’s for muscle growth and repair and L-Glutamine for added immune system support. If you are taking Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy for your pre-workout needs it has a pretty strong energy profile that should help you get through a gruelling workout, although our preference is to use it as an intra-workout.

Side Effects:

Here at TheSupp we did not have any unwanted side effects when taking Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy. We know of some people who have taken this supplement on and off for the last 3 years and never had any issues. The only side effect people are reporting is dizziness and light headedness for those that are extremely caffeine sensitive. The caffeine content is equal to a small cup of coffee so it should be fine for most people.

Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy Review – Our Verdict:

If you are looking for added energy and amino acid support for increased muscle recovery and workout intensity Optimum Nutrition Amino energy is the perfect supplement for you. Our favorite time to take Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy is intra-workout towards the end of a really intense workout. The added amino acids and energy blend will help push you on for those last 30 minutes when your body is already fatigued. You can also take amino energy pre-workout and post workout. Overall this stuff has outstanding value and is definitely worth considering if you need that little extra during tough workout sessions.
