Optimum Nutrition is no stranger to producing supplements. They’re a company that (usually) produces high quality supplements like Gold Standard Whey. In fact, some might go as far as to say that Optimum is one of the most consistent, high-quality supplement companies in existence. Then again, there are some that say that Optimum produces over-priced supplements and that it’s best to go with cheaper alternatives. So, is Optimum producing the highest quality multivitamin on the market? Or is this just a glorified sugar pill?
Ease Of Use:
When we started our Opti-Men review, the first thing we noticed was the serving size. Most people expect a serving size of 1 tablet per day. Opti-Men has you take 3 tablets a day, preferably with food.
While this may seem strange to some at first, it’s actually a pretty easy routine to get into. Some people prefer to space out the intake over a few meals, while others like to take all 3 tablets at once. It’s all a matter of personal preference.
Frankly, Opti-Men has a great price. For about $24, you can get a 150 tablet bottle but ship around a little to get that price. Taken correctly, this should last you almost two months. That works out at just under $0.50 a day, a good price for any multivitamin.
The best price is usually found at Amazon.com.
With a variety of vitamins (A, C and E being among the most prominent), Calcium, Iodine (from kelp, actually), amino acids and even riboflavin (for red blood cell production), Opti-Men really tried to cover all its bases.
That being said, we can’t ignore one glaring, jarring flaw in this multivitamin: proprietary blends. From such a reputable company, it’s surprising to see them resort to such a low quality tactic.
Basically, a “proprietary blend” is a mixture of multiple ingredients. While that may sound great, in reality these blends don’t label exactly how much you’re getting of each ingredient. In fact, you might be getting 90% of the cheap filler and 10% of quality product you wanted. There’s just no way to be sure.
The fitness community has been up in arms about proprietary blends for some time now, calling out supplement companies for this ridiculous policy. Still, it’s not uncommon for companies to try and slip the occasional proprietary blend by consumers, usually in an attempt to cut costs. With 4 proprietary blends in this multivitamin, it’s difficult to gauge effective ingredients since we weren’t sure about the dosage.
Even with this huge issue of deceiving consumers, it’s undeniable that Opti-Men works. Most people using it report feeling a better sense of well-being, more focus and even increased vascularity for some men.
This is a strange section indeed. Some men have experienced extremely vivid dreams (occasional side effect of Vitamin B6) and extremely yellow urine (brought on by riboflavin; totally harmless) while taking Opti-Men, but nothing too extreme. If you do experience any strange symptoms, stop taking it immediately and contact a physician.
- Reputable company
- Very inexpensive, considering the effects
- Well-rounded supplement
- Strong ingredient profile
- Proprietary blend
- 3 tablets a day can be a little taxing for some
Opti-Men Review – Our Verdict:
Obviously, Opti-Men isn’t perfect. With 4 proprietary blends, it’s difficult to defend the integrity of the ingredients list when we aren’t even sure what’s on it. Throw in some strange side effects and you’ve got a supplement that people are going to question. Even with some flaws, Opti-Men is still an effective multivitamin. The side effects are occasional and harmless, but the positive effects are pretty consistent and powerful. At the end of the day, that’s where the consumer’s focus should be. The question is always “is this worth it?” and the answer in this case is definitely a “Yes”.
