I'll Pump You Up

Whether it’s because of work, school or something else completely, you probably fit into the category of ‘people who could use more energy’. Even the strongest among us find it hard to push through a workout after a stressful day. Pre-workouts have become the simplest solution to this problem.

By combining a variety of ingredients, these supplements are able to (for a short period of time) give you a boost of energy and focus. Of course, sometimes these supplements fall a bit flat. MusclePharm Assault claims to be a powerful supplement, but is it all just hype?

Taste and Mixability:

If there’s one thing you can say about MusclePharm Assault, it’s that they wanted to give you options. With plenty of different flavors, chances are good that you’ll find something you like. We loved Fruit Punch the most, actually. But all the flavors are great with this supplement.

When it comes to mixability, we were a bit disappointed with the small amount of foam and small bits of this pre-workout floating around the top. The texture of this supplement was solid; nothing surprising there.

Obviously, value is tied into effectiveness because a cheap product that doesn’t work is clearly a poor investment. When it comes to the numbers, Assault will end up costing you a little more than $1.00 per training day.

This is actually a respectable price for a pre-workout. Not too obnoxious, but still high enough that we expect to get something worthwhile. Remember, there’s nothing wrong with paying a bit more for a high quality product. The question is: does MusclePharm deserve your money?

The best price we found for a 30 serving tub was $24.99 at

The first thing we noticed about this supplement during our MusclePharm Assault review was the excessive use of proprietary blends. For those of you who don’t know, proprietary blends basically make it possible for supplement companies to cut corners.

For example, Assault says that it has 1750 mg of what they call an ‘Energy and Neuro Igniter’. The label clearly says that there is caffeine in this ‘Igniter’, but the actual amount is not labeled. Not off to a good start, Assault.

In terms of how it actually feels, MusclePharm Assault gives most people a tingling feeling because of the beta alanine. Our minds felt particularly focused during our workouts, without having an overpowering rush from this pre-workout. The only thing negative we can say about this supplement is that it doesn’t really give much of a solid pump. Of course, if that doesn’t bother you, this is a solid pre-workout. We barely experienced any sort of crash (unlike some of our other pre-workout reviews) after this pre-workout wore off.

Side Effects:

Of course, this MusclePharm Assault review wouldn’t be complete without listing out the side effects. Basically, don’t do anything ridiculous (taking it with alcohol or taking it while pregnant) and you shouldn’t have any problems. If you experience any discomfort or illness, discontinue use immediately and consult a doctor.

For For

  • Variety of good flavors
  • No crash
  • Actually works well (as long as you don’t mind not having an intense pump)

Against Against

  • Potential tingling of the skin (nothing to worry about)
  • Lack of pump increase

MusclePharm Assault – Our Verdict:

MusclePharm Assault is a supplement that can certainly hold its own against other pre-workouts we’ve reviewed. With a powerful sense of mental focus and a distinct increase of energy, this pre-workout can stand among any pre-workout on the market. That being said, this pre-workout has its share of flaws. Noticeable lack of a muscular pump and a price-tag that’s a little more than average keep this pre-workout from being the superstar it could have been. In fact, if you’re looking for a decent pre-workout with a great taste, MusclePharm Assault could be just what you’re looking for.
